Steamed Upwas Wadas are here to make you ask for more. These Upwas Wadas are simple made out of Upwas Flour which in Mumbai we get mixed ones along with Rajgira and Singhara , however if you don’t have that feel free to use any flour you eat during fast.
This though is a fasting recipe but can be had as a regular snack too. It’s quite heavy and fulfilling and is a full meal in itself. I gave it to my son and he too loved it, infact you may want to make a spicy green chutney too. Another way of eating these is just dunk into some homemade curd and eat like sabudana wada. Only thing is these Steamed Upwas Wadas are steamed making it total guilt free.
Also you don’t need much ingredient but I feel peanuts really help in enhancing the taste of these wadas. Also you can skip roasting in ghee and just dry roast the flour incase you want it complete oil free. These are also gluten free, vegan minus the ghee roasting and rich in protein, iron and fibre too.
Hope you enjoy making these Steamed Upwas Wadas for your fast too. If you are looking for some dips to go along, find some here.
Steamed Upwas Wadas
A simple and healthy upwas recipe for all ages to even snack.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Upwas Atta
- 1/4 cup Roasted Peanuts
- 1 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 1/2 cup Coriander Leaves
- 1 tsp Grated Ginger
- 1 Green Chilli
Instructions
Take a pan and roast the peanuts and remove the peels and keep them aside.
In the same pan heat some ghee and roast the Upwas flour. You can use any upwas flour like Rajgira, Singhara etc or even the mixed ones which you get in market. Roast till you get nice aroma from the flour.
Now add this flour in a mixer along with peanuts, cumin powder and mix it till you powder all the peanuts with the flour.
Take it out in a plate and add grated ginger , salt and green chilli, coriander leaves and with some lukewarm water knead it nicely and give it a wait time for 5 mins.
Then put on the steamer and make small balls out of the dough and flatten them a bit and put them up for steaming on a greased plate. Steam these for around 20 mins on a medium flame and they should be done by then.
They taste great with peanut/almond and coconut chutney and alternatively they can be lightly sautéed too, however I love them just steamed.
