Making protein powder isn’t that big a deal. If only we don’t fall for commercials and marketing and let ourselves find all the goodness from what is available in abundance around us. For all those who aren’t very fond of cooking, trust me I wasn’t too untill 2015. However the realisation that cooking isn’t always about long hours in the kitchen and also that everything can’t be outsourced made me take charge of my food. This Protein Powder is again one of those self-charge moments in kitchen.

Being a mother and a fitness enthusiast who happens to be a veg, have come across people asking me often about my protein intake. Most people who ask me feel that vegetarians don’t have enough options. Well yes!! Because we havn’t explored yet. Market based Protein powder wasn’t really a solution for me. So I had to make my own Protein Powder which also is tasty.

In this recipe , I have used Jowar which is a super food and also an ancient grain , Channa Sattu ; again from the origin of Uttar Pradesh and nuts to add more protein and good fat. This protein powder is highly digestive because of its content and can be used both in sweet or savory recipes. For the record my son loves the Sheera I make using this 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Jowar Flour
  • 4 tbsp Channa Sattu
  • 10 Almonds
  • 2 tbsp Peanuts
  • 6 Cashew

Instructions

  1. Take all the nuts and either dry roast them in a pan or bake them for 5 mins on 180 degrees. Later remove the skin of peanuts.

  2. On a slow flame first dry roast Jowar Flour for good 10 to 12 mins , till it starts giving a nice aroma.

  3. Next roast Channa Sattu for 5 to 7 mins separately and keep aside.

  4. Now add nuts in a mixer and make fine powder. Remember to do this after they have cooled down, otherwise it would release oil which will make it sticky. We need dry powder for this recipe.

  5. Next add both jowar and sattu in the mixer and mix it well.

  6. Transfer this mix to the wok and roast it again for few minutes and then cool it down and store it in air tight containers.

  7. You can either mix jaggery to make this sweet or salt to use it in savory recipes.
