Barnyard Millet Khichdi

Barnyard Millets is here to make you fall in love. Today, while I made this for breakfast this was voted much better than Daliya. And it is so easy to make that you would hardly think about why not to make it. Barnyard Millets is also know as Sanwa ki Chawal and is consumed during fasting. Interestingly it has for ages been limited only for fasting times. Guess much later when people started figuring out more grains and millets became more famous is when this humble food got more exposure.

Infact Barnyard Millet is a great source of Iron and with low glycemic index and low calories it a must have for diabetic and weight watchers too. Even kids would love eating this perfect blend, specially the way it is made. You can add your own spices and give it your own twist too.

Remember to soak it before cooking and also add enough water during cooking so the grains soak it well. These two tips is what will make this work well. While I added peas and corn , I also topped it up with some sprouts for added crunch and nutrition . Sprouts are also good source of Iron and complements this amazing millets well.
