Sattu Cake! Yes you read it right 🙂

It’s just that I am in love with this Desi Flour so much that I couldn’t stop myself from trying it in cake batter. So first I thought I would not mix anything while making Sattu Cake. However then I gave up the idea and did a 50:50 with wholewheat flour. Now since this has turned out good, I will soon try full version of Sattu Cake soon and update here.

The best part of Sattu is that it highly digestive as well a very rich in protein. People in up north vouch for its goodness and including it in your diet will only make you stronger. Infact its also rich in calcium , iron and other minerals too. Sattu is for sure a super food and while we have tried so many other recipes with this power house flour, Sattu Cake was indeed something really interesting. Like most of the wholewheat cakes this is dense however if you beat the curd and oil the aeration would definitely help to make it rise. Avoid over beating after you mix the dry ingredients.

While you experiment with healthy bakes its important to understand few basics, which I also learned on the job. Ingredients temperature should be room temperature, Preheat is important part, Cool down is mandatory and also initial patience is required. I am still in very primitive stage of baking but then gradually getting a hang of things and it definitely isn’t rocket science.

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together like Sattu, Whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and sieve them twice or thrice. Put the oven on pre heat for 10 mins.

  2. Seperately mix oil and curd and whisk them together. Then add vanilla essence, cardamom powder , mashed banana and date powder and again give it a nice mix till they are evenly mixed together.

  3. Now gradually mix the dry ingredient into the wet and mix it with light hands.

  4. When all the mixture is complete and its very dry then try to add little milk and adjust the consistency.
