Matar Mushroom Rice

Matar Mushroom Rice is here to rule your meal time. Not just its super easy to make but teams up so well with plain dal that you would try to make it again and again.

The thing is that this Matar Mushroom Rice isn’t loaded with masalas or spices which makes you enjoy the taste of mushroom and peas in itself. Also if you wish you can add some biryani masala but I prefered to keep it simple and relish it with dal and salad. With the combination this Matar Mushroom Rice also becomes a meal in its own and you would not ask for anything more.

Matar Mushroom Rice is little different than pulao as the rice is cooked separately and then added to the mix while the pulao used the water of vegetables and masala to cook. Both bring in their own flavour. Also remember not to over cook mushrooms as that would turn it limp and you wont enjoy it then.

So keeping this Matar Mushroom Rice flavoursome, fresh and good with veggies is the key to make it stand out.

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1 cup Mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup Peas
  • 1 Onion Sliced
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Garlic
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 1 Tomato Chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 4 Peppercorns
  • 4 Cloves
  • 2 Green Cardamom
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Oil

Instructions

  1. Cook rice separately in a pan and keep aside.

  2. Heat a wok and add oil and once its heated add cumin seeds and then let it splutter.

  3. Next add pepper corns, bay leaf, cloves and cardamom and then add garlic and let it cook for 30 secs before adding sliced onions.

  4. Let the onions saute for a 30 secs and then add chopped tomatoes and cook on slow flame.

  5. Add coriander powder, cumin power, turmeric, red chilli powder and mix well.

  6. Now after tomatoes are tender add peas and mushroom and let it cook on slow flame. I used frozen peas so it was only about cooking mushrooms a bit. If peas a raw then cover an cook peas and then add mushrooms half way.

  7. At this moment add salt too and remember not to over cook mushrooms.

  8. Add cooked rice and gently mix with some garam masala and lemon juice.

  9. Cover it and let the rice soak all the juices and then serve with raita or even plain dal and enjoy.
