Now here is my one of the favorite creations Jowar and Anjeer Tarts. Don’t they look lovely. You know why? Just because these Jowar and Anjeer Tarts are small or mini sized and add more appeal. Giving kids something which is small generates interest and offcourse you can play around a bit on plating etc. Trust me don’t bother about plating just give them to enjoy these cute Jowar and Anjeer Tarts with some custard and fruits. If not custard use some homemade shrikhand and it would be equally gorgeous.

These Tarts are so nutritious that even some dash of chocolate is acceptable. Jowar with Anjeer is one power house and this is a great snack for anytime of the day. This recipe is full of fibre, minerals, antioxidants and love. Infact they are quite filling and you won’t feel hungry for sometime for sure. Try out this recipe of Jowar and Anjeer Tarts and enjoy just like we did.

However we made Jowar and Fig cookies also from the same dough and too did turn out to be scrumptious. Also its the taste of Fig I feel which compliments Jowar so well that it brings out the taste. You can try different flavours like chocolate etc and see who that turns out to be.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Jowar Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 3 tbsp Ghee
  • 7 Dried Figs/Anjeer
  • 8 Dates
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1 cup Custard
  • 1/2 cup Pomegranate
  • 1/4 cup Milk

Instructions

  1. Soak Anjeer and Dates in water for 1 hour separately and then make a paste in a mixer. If you wish you can add a drop of vanilla at this point.

  2. Transfer this mix in a pan and cook with 1 tsp ghee on slow till its all one sticky dark brown lump. Basically all the moisture has evaporated.

  3. Mix baking soda, salt and cardamon powder in Jowar and sieve it once.

  4. Add ghee into the flour and gradually add the Anjeer and Dates mixture too. Start mixing them together with fingers and if needed take some milk too for combining the dough.

  5. Now keep the dough in refrigerator and put the oven on pre heat at 180 degrees.

  6. Take out the dough after 5 mins and then take the small tart moulds (greased with oil) and stuff the dough inside the mould pressing the dough with the thumb and making a groove in between.

  7. Now keep the moulds inside the oven and bake this at 180 degrees for 10 mins and then let it cool. If the size of tarts moulds are big it might take around 15 mins.

  8. Take out the tarts from the mould when it cools down and add some custard /shrikhand in it along with some pomegranate and give your kids to relish this beauty.
