Kaushani has been travelling to different places in India running workshops on Ayurvedic Cooking and admist her busy schedule we got an opportunity to capture some of her thoughts to be share with you. We thankyou Paayel Agarwal for connecting us with this young and beautiful soul to make life smile more.
1.Is Ayurvedic cooking focusing towards weight loss or it is more holistic way of cooking like Ayurveda itself?
Ayurveda is a holistic way of living life and is a very vast subject that covers many areas such as food, meditation, yoga, treatment under this one roof. So not only one but all together we can deal with many health problems. It helps in adapting good habits which are helpful in long run. As in Ayurveda they say:
‘Vinapi bheshajair vyadhi pathyadeva nivarthathe; Na tu pathyaviheenasya bheshajaanaam shatairapi’.
One can eliminate the disease just by following an appropriate diet and lifestyle, even without the help of medicines. But healing is not possible even with proper medicines, if one neglects the aspect of food and routine.
2.Can we cook kids friendly recipes too via this procedure?
Kids are more natural and if we change the way of presentation of food they relish it more. So making healthy food tasty and presenting it in an attractive way can tempt them more towards food. Infact earlier we start better it is, Ayurvedic cooking is about helping you get the maximum nutrition which offcourse is important for growing kids.
3.Is Ayurvedic cooking focusing only on Indian cooking or can be used for other cuisines too?
If we know the right way of cooking it can help you to retain more nutritive value in the food we prepare. Creating recipes can is an addition to this skill. Indian food is also very rich in varieties and full of different taste and style so if we can learn that we can do many things with continental food too. Know you food first and then use the skills to try it out on other cuisines too, after all the food value remains the same, its only how position it in our mind.
4.What are some dos and don’ts about Ayurvedic cooking and how can we adapt it in our daily routine?
There are some viruddh aahar (wrong combination) which we should avoid combining.
Use of Fresh food and non-refined is good to have while canned and processed food are a strict no-no. Natural products and natural ways of cooking are recommended. We don’t promote microwave cooking, aluminum and non-stick (Teflon coating) cookware in Ayurvedic cooking.
5.What are the benefits one would get in long run by adapting Ayurvedic cooking?
One can get all sorts of benefits on long run by adapting Ayurvedic cooking. As I mentioned it’s a more holistic approach to life while Ayurveda believes in not only care but also cure.
6.Tell us how did you pick this art and what inspired you to do more?
I think we all are born into this world to make it more beautiful before we leave it and there are many ways to contribute. I got interested in cooking because I was doing it for my parents and my Guru from a very young age and when they loved the food their happy faces gave me joy and happiness. Gradually it became my passion after my own experience of living this knowledge, sharing this inspires me every day to do it more.
